To what extent is a "doppelganger" supposed to look like you?

Are they supposed to look like an identical twin with only slight differences like freckles and birth marks? Or even more similar than that? Or can they look very similar too you, but not quite like an identical twin. (ie: like the pairs brothers or sisters who look VERY similar, but aren't necessarily identical twins)

p.s. sources would be great :)To what extent is a "doppelganger" supposed to look like you?
A doppelganger is an entity that is essentially a duplicate of yourself.

In European folklore, a doppelganger is also known as a "double", in which it is a double of you. It will be exactly like you in appearance. However, it cannot speak. These were believed to be symbols of death. If you were to ever see or meet your double, you were fated to die in the near future. The double would only be seen once or twice, and then would never be seen or heard from again. Whoever the double was imitating, that person was doomed and would soon die. It was a supernatural occurrence that acted like a warning. It was considered a death omen.

Doppelgangers can often be seen in videogames and are used as defensive/offensive "spells" in an RPG or fighting sim. If you notice, when someone uses a "doppelganger attack", there will be an identical copy of the character that will aid the player.

In modern pop culture, friends may be labeled doppelgangers due to the fact they may share the same interests, appearances, and fashion choices. The become so similar to each other in physical ways. This has created the joke of someone being someone else's "doppelganger". However, it is obvious that they are not the same person, as they are two separate identities.

A "doppelganger" will look similar to you, but will not be you exactly. If you were to meet someone that looked like you, you would find that you do not share the same DNA, birthmarks, fingerprints, etc. No one has a true doppelganger due to the fact that everyone is unique in that aspect that (with the exception of identical twins and DNA) no one will ever share the same genetic makeup as you.
Identical. I once saw my doppelganger, same clothing too.To what extent is a "doppelganger" supposed to look like you?

a real doppelganger looks exactly like you, enough to fool people who know you or even freak you totally out if you see it yourself. it sort of is you or a projection of you.

some one who looks like you is something else. not the same thing at all, but still coolTo what extent is a "doppelganger" supposed to look like you?
